A water turbine is a turbomachine that converts the potential flow energy contained in water into mechanical energy; this mechanical energy is subsequently converted into electrical energy in a generator. The gear units for water turbines gear up the low turbine speed into a very high generator speed. 

Bucket wheel excavators and spreaders need to travel to their site of operation on their own. The highest loads occur if a difference in height has to be passed in a cornering. The excavator is moved by single drives that are sufficiently powerful to meet these challenging requirements yet compact enough to comply with the specified space limitation inside the crawler chain.

Efficiency and reliability for rolling mills and roller presses

Uneven loads, extreme axial and radial forces, high dust generation – the grinding of iron ore, limestone and clinker is marked by harsh working conditions. High-pressure rolling mills and rotary kilns are particularly demanding applications that call for maximum performance and reliability from the drive systems. The grinding process must be guaranteed energy-efficient and reliable at the same time. Our planetary gear units have been used as drives in roller presses and rolling mills for decades. The product portfolio during that time has been continuously optimised and expanded. Today our gear units are the perfect solution for rolling mills and roller presses. Their low weight reduces loads on gear units and machines. High radial and axial additional forces exerted by universal-joint shafts and floating-roller acceleration are absorbed by the standard bearing system. The high overload capacity here ensures operational reliability and stabilises your process.

FLENDER gear units are used in the manufacture of sugar from sugar beet and sugar cane and through their optimised design help to save energy. Carefully thought-through drive systems are space-savingly dimensioned.

FLENDER helical gear units for double-screw extruders with parallel drive shafts and the same direction of screw rotation are available in several sizes in the performance range between 200 and 35 000 Nm per shaft and for up to 20 000 kW. They are used mainly in the manufacture of granulates and the refining of raw plastics as well as in the paint and lacquer industry and in the washing agent, foodstuff and animal-feed industries.

Generator gearboxes can be used for the low-cost production of electricity on board. They are used with low-speed diesel engines and can be used for generator operation as well as for PTI/PTH operation (emergency operation). They can transmit power up to 8,000 kW.

Multiple-input/single-output marine gearboxes direct the output of several diesel engines or electric motors to a propeller. Here, different drive concepts can be implemented.  

Single input/single output marine gearboxes are used in river boats and coastal vessels, but also in ocean-going vessels. Depending on the application they can be built with vertically, horizontally or diagonally offset shafts. These gearboxes cover a power range from 1,000 to 30,000 kW with transmission ratios from 1.5 to about 12.1.

Agitators and agitator tanks are used in chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food processing applications. The diversity of the application requirements and the media employed necessitate customized plant designs.

The immediate advantages of using PLANUREX® 3 gear units lie in the cost benefits for drive systems and driven machines. Our gear units with a high power density are light and compact and thus reduce the load acting on the rollers and the mill’s structure. The oil supply system can be optionally mounted directly on the PLANUREX 3 L. This produces a powerful unit with an exceedingly compact design, whose low weight ensures low secondary forces.

Bucket elevators serve to vertically transport large masses of bulk material to different heights without creating dust, then dump it. The height to be overcome is frequently more than 200 meters. The weights to be moved are enormous.

Wet Cooling Towers are those buildings where the water that was heated by industrial or power generation processes is cooled, again. The heat is given off to the environment. Wet cooling towers are an integral part of the thermodynamic circle. The water to be cooled is sprayed and distributed over the splash fills. As a result the water temperature drops when the evaporation heat is withdrawn and the air gets humified.
