Siemens Unveils Advanced Simulation Software for Electric Motors
Siemens has recently launched a groundbreaking software, Simcenter E-Machine Design, aimed at revolutionizing the performance prediction of electric motors, including the complex axial flux motors often used in electric vehicles (EVs). This software, part of Siemens Digital Industries Software's Xcelerator portfolio, is designed to address key challenges in the EV industry, such as supply chain issues, scaling difficulties, and the need for rapid innovation.
Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, Senior Vice President of Simulation and Test Solutions at Siemens Digital Industries Software, highlighted the importance of cutting-edge simulation capabilities. He noted that the new software allows for detailed electromagnetic and thermal simulations, reducing the reliance on physical prototypes and accelerating the development process. This is crucial for the EV industry, where there is a constant push for innovation to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving market.
The Simcenter E-Machine Design software specifically addresses the challenges associated with axial flux motors. These motors offer higher power density and the potential to increase EV range but pose significant engineering challenges due to their compact size and complexity. Effective heat dissipation and maintaining the required air gap are major hurdles that the new software aims to overcome through advanced simulation techniques.
Siemens Digital Industries Software, which has been part of Siemens since 2007, focuses on the digital transformation of manufacturing processes across various industries. The new software is expected to enhance the efficiency and performance of electric motors, contributing to Siemens' goal of driving sustainability and decarbonization in industrial applications.
